Darts professional Gabriel Clemens was eliminated in the first round of his first major tournament since the World Cup around three weeks ago.
The World Cup semi-finalist from Saarwellingen lost 6-4 in legs against the Portuguese Jose de Sousa at the start of the Masters in Milton Keynes, England.
Clemens has thus also in the fourth attempt against the world number 14. not won. De Sousa meets three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen in the second round on Saturday, the Dutchman winning the tournament five times in a row from 2015 to 2019.
At the season highlight in London’s Alexandra Palace, 39-year-old Clemens was the first German to storm into the semi-finals, but had to admit defeat to the eventual title holder Michael Smith from England.
