We live surrounded by prohibitions, some more absurd than others, most designed for the good governance of community life and many others to protect us. We live like this without us tearing our clothes for it. However, something happens with the education of children that worries us so much due to the excessive consumption of screens and the lack of control of what they find there.

The cell phone seems like the new plague of the apocalypse but for some strange reason it is not prohibited in schools (in Catalonia each school can do what it wants). The kids can’t play in the yard with the scooter they use to go to school, but they can play with their cell phone, take photos, chat… They cannot leave the premises during the patio, but you can connect to that window to the world and do whatever they want with their mobile. They already have prohibitions, why not add mobile phones?

The debate is endless while addiction problems and tensions in classrooms due to cell phone use grow. If they have learned that in class you have to ask for a turn to speak and that if you mess up you go to the hallway, they can learn that at school the cell phone is prohibited because there are times, hours and places where the cell phone is of no use. In the field of education there is a tendency to eliminate the prohibition to set limits. It can be banned without falling into past mistakes. There is a healthy middle ground between the fifties of the last century and bubble children. Ban cell phones in class and nothing bad will happen.
