FC Zurich: André Breitenreiter before moving to TSG Hoffenheim

Successor wanted for Hoeneß

A first version of the article appeared on Saturday at 4:02 p.m. and new information was added to the first paragraph on Sunday.

According to a report by the “table football‘ a candidate for coaching at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The Kraichgauers are dealing with the Swiss champion coach of FC Zurich and have already contacted him. TSG has not yet commented on this. On Sunday put the newspaper “View” after and said that everything indicates that Breitenreiter will take over at the Bundesliga club. His departure from Zurich is a done deal.

With nine games without a win at the end of the season, Hoffenheim was ninth in the table and lost a place in the European Cup, before that TSG was even on course for the Champions League. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß therefore had to leave this week after two years. He averaged 1.42 points in 81 games.

Breitenreiter rose to the Bundesliga in 2014 with SC Paderborn and in 2017 with Hannover 96. In between, he coached FC Schake 04. After a break between 2019 and 2021, he was hired in Zurich and led FC to the title. His contract there runs until the summer of 2023, which is why he would have to pay a fee that, according to the report, is well below the million mark. According to “Sport Bild”, Breitenreiter can leave the Swiss champions this summer with an opt-out clause. Accordingly, an interested club would have to put 300,000 euros on the table.

Breitenreiter also a candidate for Gladbach – decision based on season analysis

Most recently, the 48-year-old was also traded at Borussia Mönchengladbach, but according to media reports, the “foals” will bring back the former successful coach Lucien Favre. In the past, Breitenreiter had made no secret of being open to offers. However, he will only make a decision after the season has been analyzed, i.e. next week at the earliest. With the last home game against FC Luzern on Sunday, Zurich still has an opponent in front of their chests.
