FC Watford surprisingly extends their contract with coach Valérien Ismaël

After just three months

Coach Valérien Ismaël has extended his contract with English second division club FC Watford after just three months. The “Hornets” announced this on Tuesday without giving any details about the new contract term. It was said that the services of the 48-year-old Frenchman had been secured “for a longer period of time”. The former Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich professional only took over the position at the start of the season.

The extension comes as a surprise because Watford have failed to live up to expectations so far this season and are only in 20th place in the Championship table with nine points from nine games. The “Hornets” also failed in the first round of the EFL Cup against third division club FC Stevenage.

“It’s true that we haven’t yet gotten the points we were hoping for, but the work and progress gives us great confidence,” said sporting director Cristiano Giaretta. “You feel that something is changing and the atmosphere is positive everywhere.”
