FC Volendam strengthens itself with South African international

The plagued FC Volendam seems to soon have access to Luke Le Roux. The midfielder comes over from the Swedish Varberg. At the moment, the transfer is not fully completed, because the paperwork is not yet complete and a work permit must be obtained for the 23-year-old South Africa international.

“Luke is the type of player that we have been looking for for a long time to complement our midfield,” says technical director Jasper van Leeuwen on the FC Volendam site. Both sides have agreed a three-year contract with an option for a further season. “Luke is physically strong, has a lot of dynamics, is skilled with the ball and has a good understanding of the game. The best summary is an all-round and box-to-box midfielder.”

In 2020, Le Roux made the move from South African SuperSport United to Varberg. At the highest level in Sweden, the midfielder developed into South Africa’s captain and international. In total, Le Roux played 99 official matches for the Swedish club, in which he scored three times.

“The fact that he is now coming to Volendam is really a quality injection for our team,” said Van Leeuwen. And that is good news for FC Volendam, because after two rounds of play in the premier league, the Palingboeren are at zero points. In addition, Daryl van Mieghem made the switch to ADO Den Haag yesterday. The experienced striker from Amstelveen was the top scorer last season with eight goals. However, FC Volendam was told yesterday that they have won the arbitration case against Carel Eiting.

The next game is on Sunday, September 3. Then FC Volendam will take on FC Twente at home.
