FC Volendam has won its first exhibition match of the new football season. The Eredivisionist defeated the amateurs of SVZW 6-1.
On a visit to Wierden in Overijssel, new trainer Matthias Kohler left the net attracted goalkeeper Mio Backhaus play from the first whistle. In the point of the attack, Lequincio Zeefuik was allowed to try. Notably absent was Carel Eiting. The captain of Volendam is struggling with an injury.
Logically, FC Volendam turned out to be the better team against a stiff defensive SVZW on the warm artificial grass field. The opponent, who plays in the Saturday main class, only conceded one goal in the first half. This came from the foot of Ibrahim El Kadiri. The fast winger flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and was then able to score in the empty goal.
Work on self-confidence
In the second half, Kohler almost put up a completely different team. Only Damon Mirani was allowed to stand. In the second company, self-confidence was worked on by scoring. Shortly after the break, Jong FC Volendam’s first goal was Ezechiel Fiemawhle. Then it was Robert Muhren (header), Henk Veerman (header), Darius Johnson (shot) and Imran Nazih (lob) who brought the total to six. Maarten Jansen scored an honorary goal on behalf of the home team and thus set the final score at 6-1.
FC Volendam leaves for Renesse on Monday for a training camp. The next exhibition game is scheduled for Saturday, July 16. In Alkmaar, FC Volendam will play against the Belgian KAA Gent.
