FC Volendam has handed over the last place to Ajax. The Eel Farmers defeated Excelsior 3-1 after halftime. As a result, they rise to sixteenth place in the run-up to the cellar cracker with Ajax.
In the opening phase, Volendam came out very well through Garang Kuol. However, the Australian shot straight at goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel. On the other hand, Excelsior became dangerous through Lazaros Lamprou, but he headed over from close range. Robert Mühren provided the most danger to the Volendam side in the rest of the first half.
He gave a good assist to Kuol, but then passed the ball to Van Gassel again. Mühren then almost tapped in and Bilal Ould-Chikh saw his effort go just wide. Volendam therefore had the best chances. Still, Excelsior took the lead. Couhaib Driouech cleverly finished a delicate cross from Redouan El Yaakoubi: 0-1.

As poorly as Volendam finished the first half, it started the second strongly. Benaissa Benamar headed Josh Flint’s cross against the ropes: 1-1. In no time Volendam also took the lead for the first time. Robert Mühren scored in two instances: 2-1. A phase followed with a number of pinpricks on both sides.
The news from Ajax made the atmosphere in Volendam increasingly better. That feeling was even more reinforced after a colossal blunder by Van Gassel. The goalkeeper did not anticipate a back pass properly and saw Milan de Haan take advantage: 3-1.
