FC Volendam has attracted a new player with Axel Guessand. The 19-year-old defender is rented from the Italian Udinese for six months. The Frenchman is FC Volendam’s first acquisition in the transfer period.
With the conclusion of the rental deal, Volendam and Udinese have agreed to work together more intensively. “Such collaborations are a win-win situation for both our club and Udinese,” says director Frans ten Berge on the club’s website. “FC Volendam has shown in recent seasons to be an excellent platform for young talent. We have been able to boost the careers of Samuele Mulattieri, Gaetano Oristanio and Filip Stankovic, three players from Italian clubs.”
Left-footed
According to Ten Berge, Guessand is an interesting player for Volendam, because he is a left-footed defender. “Axel has constructive qualities, is physically strong despite his age, can play both centrally and on the wing and has now tasted Italian professional football,” said Ten Berge.
In 2022, Guessand joined Udinese. The Italians took him over from AS Nancy. The Frenchman made his debut in the Italian league at the end of last season. At Udinese he started against Juventus. He played just one game in Serie A this season.
FC Volendam will play against Heracles Almelo in the Premier League on Saturday evening. The New Orange can use the points well, because it has been in last place in the Premier League since last weekend with 11 points from 17 games.
