FC Volendam had to accept a narrow defeat at home against Fortuna Sittard. In an unremarkable match, a goal from Inigo Cordoba was enough. Volendam thus fails to distance itself from the bottom place.
Just like against Heracles Almelo, Volendam played without Xavier Mbuyamba. Lequincio Zeefuik, who will leave for AZ next summer, was in the starting line-up. The Volendam team had newcomers Alex Guessand and Vivaldo Semedo on the bench.
The Udinese mercenaries saw a very weak Volendam in the first half. The home team did not get further than a soft header from Damon Mirani. The Eel farmers were lucky that Fortuna did not have their sights set on either.

Soon in the second half it was Inigo Cordoba who made the Limburgers cheer. The Spanish striker slid a cross from Kaj Sierhuis into the goal at the far post: 0-1. The VAR had to check the goal, but ultimately approved it. Volendam asserted itself a little more after that opening goal. Zach Booth shot straight into the post out of nowhere.
Just before the end, Zeefuik could have scored his fifth goal, but failed to do so. It therefore ended in a victory for Fortuna Sittard. Volendam remains stuck in seventeenth place in the Premier League and has failed to distance itself from Vitesse. FC Utrecht is the next opponent next Sunday at 2:30 PM.
