FC Volendam is warming up for a party match: “Everyone is making a fuss”

In Volendam, nobody talks about anything other than the possible promotion. The Other Orange plays against FC Den Bosch tomorrow evening and is assured of Eredivisie football for the first time in thirteen years in the event of a win. “The club would like to experience something unique,” says trainer Wim Jonk.

“I’m a bit closed off from that,” Jonk says about the party atmosphere that is now getting bigger and bigger. After ADO Den Haag’s draw against Jong PSV, Volendam must win once of the next three games to secure promotion. “We have an excellent starting position.”

In Den Bosch, Volendam will meet an opponent who is still in the fight for the period title. Bilal Ould-Chikh knows his squad needs to be on the lookout. “They probably want to ruin our party.”

Last week, Volendam took a crucial step towards promotion with the victory over Jong Ajax. The 3-1 victory led to a real revelry at De Dijk. “Everyone makes a fuss of it, but we just have to do our thing,” says Jonk, who probably does not have Benaissa Benamar, Kevin Visser and Brian Plat available in Den Bosch.

In De Vliert, Volendam is supported by 500 enthusiastic fans. The outing was sold out in four minutes† With a win in Den Bosch, the players and staff will probably receive a hero’s welcome at the stadium. A party is then planned in the village, but a trip on the Back and forth 10 isn’t in it this time. “I heard that the party hadn’t really been arranged yet. I hope they will do that soon,” says Ould-Chikh.
