At the start of the season, no one expected that the match between Ajax and FC Volendam would be a relegation cracker. Both teams will meet each other in Amsterdam on Thursday. “Most who play against Ajax smell blood,” said Volendam striker Bilal Ould-Chikh.
Volendam coach Matthias Kohler cannot initially be caught making a juicy statement. “A match like any other,” Kohler looks ahead. But after some further questions, the trainer tells us that the match is a special one. “It is against Ajax in the Arena, but I am not going to do anything different in the preparation. We should not look too much at the score. It is still Ajax and they have qualities. We are going there with confidence,” says Kohler.

Ajax is in a historic last place. You would say that Thursday is the ideal time for FC Volendam to get three points. “That is well said. Ajax is under pressure and that can sometimes help. But it can also get in the way. We have to look at ourselves,” said Kohler.
FC Volendam will not have Xavier Mbuyamba, Luke Le Roux, Robin Maulun and Brian Plat available on Thursday.
