FC Volendam ended the training camp in Turkey with a 2-0 victory over FC Winterthur. Calvin Twigt and Milan de Haan were the scorers after the break in the practice match against the number seven from the Swiss league.
Not too much happened in the first half. Opportunities were scarce. The biggest danger came from the Swiss who hit the crossbar with a long shot.
Immediately after the break, Robert Mühren became dangerous twice in quick succession. On his first attempt, the striker tried with a shot into the short corner. A few minutes later he decided to shoot just inside the box. In both cases the goalkeeper made the save.
Opening goal Twigt
After 64 minutes Volendam was successful. De Haan sent Mühren into the depth with a nice long pass. He was waiting for reinforcement. He tried to reach the connected Damon Mirani, but eventually the ball came via the keeper at the feet of Calvin Twigt, who tapped the ball into the goal on the rebound.
De Haan doubled the score in the 85th minute. He got rid of two opponents and then shot the ball through the hands of the keeper into the Swiss goal: 2-0. It almost became 3-0 afterwards. Bilal Ould-Chikh picked up the ball in his own half and, after a rush, shot over sixty meters towards the far corner where Zach Booth just couldn’t get his foot on the ball.
The match against FC Winterthur was the second match in Belek. On Friday, the meeting against Albanian national champions Partizan Tirana ended in a 1-1 draw. Tomorrow the team of trainers Regillio Simons and Michael Dingsdag will return to the Netherlands. FC Volendam will resume the competition on Sunday. The home match against Almere City FC starts at 12.15 pm.
