FC Volendam suffered a heavy defeat against PSV tonight. The PhD student from the fishing village could not make a fist against the title candidate from Eindhoven and had to concede no fewer than seven goals. Thanks to a goal of honor from Henk Veerman, it eventually became 7-1.
FC Volendam started the game in a 5-3-2 formation to build in more defensive security against the title candidate from Eindhoven. However, Wim Jonk’s tactical battle plan was thrown into the trash after just 21 seconds when Xavi Simons managed to pass goalkeeper Filip Stankovic. The talent, who came over from Paris Saint-Germain, scored a rebound from close range after Brian Plat almost passed his own goalkeeper.
Opportunity
FC Volendam had their backs against the wall in the first half as expected and had to concede the second goal after almost half an hour of play. Derry John Murkin pulled Guus Til down into the penalty area and the ball hit the spot. Cody Gakpo took advantage of the opportunity and doubled the lead for PSV: 2-0.
Five minutes before half time, it was Gakpo again who managed to score. The wing attacker went around the outside at Carel Eiting and with a dry bang he hit the far corner. To the surprise of the audience in Eindhoven, FC Volendam suddenly showed itself two minutes later. Henk Veerman took care of the 3-1 halftime score after the tall striker was able to play out PSV defender Jarrad Branthwaite and finish successfully.

Bakayoko makes 7th for PSV
Just like at the beginning of the first half, the ball was again quickly behind Stankovic in the second half. After 77 seconds in the second company, PSV scored the 4-1. Jordan Teze shot in the fourth for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team through Plat’s leg. The 5-1 was also not long in coming. Cody Gakpo completed his hat-trick by hitting Damon Mirani’s chest with a bit of luck.
More suffering saved
Unfortunately for FC Volendam, the hunger for PSV goals had not yet been quenched. Xavi Simons made the sixth for PSV after a quick counter and Johan Bakayoko was responsible for the 7-1 twelve minutes before the end. Fortunately, Jonk’s team was spared more suffering. A bright spot for FC Volendam was the debut of Imran Nazih. The 16-year-old talent was allowed to participate for more than twenty minutes at Volendam.
It is the second loss for FC Volendam in the early season. After four games it is New Orange now with four points in thirteenth place in the Eredivisie. The next showdown awaits next Saturday. Then FC Volendam will visit Sparta.
