FC Volendam continues with Murkin and Flint; James and Maloney have to leave

Derry John Murkin and Josh Flint will also play at FC Volendam next season. The options in their contracts have been exercised by the club. For Dean James and Leon Maloney, their stay ends after this season. Reserve keeper Barry Lauwers is in the waiting room.

Like all other professional clubs, FC Volendam had to give its players clear information about future plans before April 1. As a left back, Murkin is a permanent fixture in the team of trainer Wim Jonk and Flint is also regularly in the starting line-up.

Mirani and Van Mieghem

The option in Damon Mirani’s contract was automatically lifted last summer with the promotion. Daryl van Mieghem also has an option in his contract that is lifted after a certain number of games played. The wing striker was in the base sixteen times this season and came in six times. Volendam does not announce the number of matches in which the option takes effect.

James played regularly in the first division, but his playing minutes are a lot lower in the premier league. At the highest level, he came to four base places and three raids. Maloney only made minutes for Jong FC Volendam.

Lauwers

The contract with Lauwers has also been formally terminated, but technical director Jasper van Leeuwen says on the club’s website that he is still in talks with the keeper. “We will talk quietly with each other in the coming period to see what is best for Barry. So either stay with FC Volendam, as part of a healthy competition. Or become the sure first keeper elsewhere,” said Van Leeuwen.
