FC Volendam has signed Carel Eiting on Thursday. The 24-year-old midfielder comes over from Huddersfield Town on a free transfer and has signed with the PhD student for two years, with an option for another season.
Eiting is reunited at Volendam with trainer Wim Jonk. The two previously worked together in the youth of Ajax. “I am really looking forward to playing for FC Volendam”, Eiting says on the site from his new employer.
“A club with a lot of ambitions and great growth potential. I have a lot of confidence in Wim Jonk and his team. I think their philosophy about football suits me perfectly and I am sure that I can develop further with them.”
Technical director Jasper van Leeuwen is also happy with the deal. “Carel is not only a good acquaintance from our Ajax time, also on a human level there has always been contact and a special bond.”
‘He is the undisputed director’
Van Leeuwen expects Eiting to be able to add a lot to Volendam’s game. “It is of course undisputed that Carel is a huge reinforcement for Volendam, explanation seems superfluous to me. The fact that he chooses this out-of-the-box challenge from many options says a lot about his personality.”
“Carel thinks very carefully about things and his conclusion is that in this environment he can fulfill the role that is tailor-made for him: that of the undisputed director, the playmaker who determines the rhythm and direction of the game. He is an important extension of Wim Jonk in the field.”
According to various media, Eiting was also in the interest of FC Utrecht and Fortuna Düsseldorf. In addition to Ajax and Huddersfield Town, the midfielder was also active at KRC Genk for six months. Eiting can make his debut on Sunday in the away match against FC Groningen.
Volendam has previously reached this transfer window Benaissa Benamar (FC Utrecht, was already rented), Gaetano Oristanio (Inter Milan), Francesco Antonucci (Feyenoord, was already rented), Filip Stankovic (Inter Milan) and Henk Veerman (FC Utrecht).
