Carel Eiting has been a player of FC Volendam since today. The 24-year-old midfielder was presented this morning and was immediately on the training field for his new employer a few minutes later. “I end up with people I know and whom I trust. That suits me,” said the brand new acquisition of Volendam.
“I have always played very well under Wim Jonk. And after that we have always kept in touch. He made me play better in both Ajax’s first team and in youth,” Eiting says about his choice for FC Volendam. “That’s an important reason to be here. And the way of playing suits me too. In the end I’m happy that I make a choice that suits me.”
“I’m not here to play relegation football”
Eiting went through Ajax’s youth academy and played 31 matches in the Amsterdam team’s flagship. The midfielder is therefore used to playing for the prizes, but will probably have to deal with relegation football in Volendam. “I don’t want to draw that conclusion yet. Maybe you can ask me that again in six months. Maybe that will happen, but I’m not thinking about place ten or eighteen yet,” said Eiting.

Super cool
Trainer Wim Jonk was of course delighted with the arrival of Eiting, who after Henk Veerman the second serious reinforcement is for his squad. “We have kept in touch all these years. You do not lose sight of each other. I think it is cool to continue to follow such guys. And at the moment it would fit nicely because of course we play in the premier league. And if it all ends in the end If it works, it’s really cool,” said Jonk.
FC Volendam will open the new Eredivisie season this Sunday with an away game against FC Groningen. Kick-off at the Euroborg is at 12.15 pm. Carel Eiting says he is fit and can therefore make his debut for FC Volendam right away.
