The Eredivisie Cup winners from two years ago and last year faced each other with FC Twente and Ajax. The team from Amsterdam were defending champions, but this time the cup went to Enschede. Despite a false start. It was in fact Romée Leuchter who opened the score on behalf of Ajax after more than fifteen minutes.
That opening goal shook FC Twente awake. Eight minutes later it was already 1-1 thanks to an unparalleled goal by Anna-Lena Stolze. With a beautiful volley she rammed the equalizer against the ropes, after which it was thanks to Stefanie van der Gragt that it did not immediately become 2-1 for FC Twente. The defender of Ajax took the ball off the line. As a result, the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half FC Twente scored two goals within two minutes. In the 54th minute a corner kick by Marisa Olislagers went in in one go, partly due to a blundering goalkeeper Regina van Eijk, after which Stolze even made it 3-1. The duel seemed to be in favor of FC Twente, but in the 66th minute it was again Leuchter who reduced the tension on behalf of Ajax with the 3-2.
However, the joy at Ajax was short-lived. Renate Jansen determined the score at 4-2 in the 66th minute and with that the final hole seemed to have been made. Tiny Hoekstra brought the tension back just before the end with (once again) a beautiful goal, but it turned out to be nothing more than a connecting goal, because no more goals were scored in the absolute final phase.
