FC Twente fan who made discriminatory comments to Brobbey receives ‘alternative punishment’

The 16-year-old boy who racially treated Brian Brobbey after the match against FC Twente in September will receive an ‘alternative punishment’ from the Public Prosecution Service. The football fan must complete a work or learning assignment from the public prosecutor.

After the match, the 16-year-old boy approached the Ajax team bus jungle sounds towards Brobbey and cursed the striker. The boy was arrested immediately after the incident and received a stadium ban from the club. A few days later he wrote an apology letter to Brobbey, Ajax and FC Twente.

The public prosecutor believes that the boy is guilty of making discriminatory insults and that it must be clear ‘that this will not be tolerated’. The officer does make a comment about the young supporter. “He has never been in contact with the police before, acted under peer pressure and was unable to understand the impact of his act.”

All things considered, the officer believes it is appropriate for the boy to be given a work or learning assignment following the incident. Because the supporter is a minor, the Public Prosecution Service will not make any further statements about the assignment.
