Does he go or stay? The future of high-flying coach Fabian Hürzeler at the second division soccer team FC St. Pauli is still in the balance.
The negotiations about an extension of his expiring contract are becoming more and more of a deadlock.
“There are things that are out of the question for the club and things that are unimaginable for the coach and his advisors. That’s called negotiations, and we’re struggling to find a solution,” said St. Pauli’s sports director Andreas Bornemann at the training camp on Mallorca Hamburg media: “At some point all the arguments are exchanged and you go around in circles.”
FC St. Pauli is pushing for an early Hürzeler decision
There is no ultimatum from the club management. But Bornemann also says: “The decision about the most important personnel should not be made at the end of the journey, but rather as early as possible.”
Now the question is: “Can the respective interests be brought together in the best possible way? If we succeed in that, then it would be best for all sides.”
At 30 years old, Hürzeler is the youngest head coach in German professional football. He has been coaching St. Pauli since December 2022 and has gradually led the club to the top of the table. 13 game days before the end of the season, the league leaders are three points ahead of second-placed Holstein Kiel, five over third-placed Hamburger SV and seven over fourth-placed SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
