If you really agree on the fee, Southampton can actually do relatively little. Unless the player doesn’t want to come to us
For 6 million I would say it’s worth a try anyway
This statement makes me aware of how incredibly fast football has developed (financially)
It wasn’t too long ago that the top transfers still had such transfers. And Grade Leverkusen has been very consistent in the league over the past 25 years.
A Toprak is still playing and was with his 3? Mio was a big transfer at the time, which was already viewed critically for a talent (which could already prove its class)
Where is all the money coming from? In my perception, there are no more football fans today than there were then. On the contrary, everything used to be a little more football-crazy to me.
I would say that there are more football fans than back then. Not because there are more people, but and I’m speculating here because more markets are being developed outside of Europe. But even then, the money doesn’t come directly from the people. Increasing sponsorship and image rights are contributing to this. Yes, ultimately the money has to come from the people, but if you pause for a moment, you quickly see that you pay a lot more for football these days, be it ticket prices, streaming providers or whatever.
Certainly there are much smarter people than me who can explain this price explosion better than I can.
