For once, Tim Latka and Niklas “NiklasNeo” Nörenberg were allowed to comment in a very biased way – at the first Revierderby between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund in the history of the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship in EA Sports FC 24.
Latka, a former e-athlete from S04, teased NiklasNeo in the black and yellow BVB jersey in the blue and white Schalke jersey. “We’ve been leading in the derby for ten years,” said Latka after Schalke’s 1-0 win. The last time the Royal Blues won against BVB in the real Bundesliga was in 2019. But on the virtual pitch, the Schalke e-athletes overwhelmed their arch-rivals. First with 4:0 in doubles, then with 4:2 in singles.
And in the small Revierderby against VfL Bochum, the Schalke duo with Max “Antimax” Eggenkämper and Bastian “Bubschi10” Rupsch won in just two games (2:0; 2:1). Only the VBL runner-up club champion FC Hansa Rostock was able to stop the Royal Blues’ run and wrest a draw from the Ruhrpottlers (1:2; 1:1; 2:0).
Schalke 04 is currently in fourth place with 23 points in the North-West relay, which is led by SC Paderborn 07 with 28 points.
