Despite the precarious situation in the relegation battle, FC Schalke 04 has so far landed rather manageable quality in winter transfers. Now the Knappen probably even lose another player.
As the Danish tabloid “BT” writes, the Gelsenkircheners have agreed with FC Copenhagen on a transfer from Jordan Larsson.
Accordingly, the 25-year-old will initially join the capital club on loan until the summer. After that, a purchase option takes effect that makes a permanent change possible.
The winger only moved from Spartak Moscow to the Ruhr area on a free transfer in August. However, the son of the legendary Swedish attacker Henrik Larsson did not prove to be the reinforcement he was hoping for.
In his eleven Bundesliga appearances, he was not involved in a goal. Often Larsson even came from the bank.
Sports director Peter Knäbel made no secret of the fact that the top management had hoped for more from the newcomer. He even publicly counted the offensive player in an interview with “WAZ”: “In the games in which he was substituted, he swam along. But we didn’t get him for that, that can’t be his self-image either,” he rumbled 56 year old.
FC Schalke 04 makes more winter transfers
The “kicker” had already reported in November that Larsson was therefore on the hit list at S04. The left foot, like left-back Kerim Calhanoglu, should be given up to make room for real reinforcements, it was said at the time.
At Calhanoglu, the separation has already been completed. The 20-year-old was loaned to SV Sandhausen in the 2nd Bundesliga.
However, the squad was only partially strengthened in the long term. The loan deals from Jere Uronen at left-back and Niklas Tauer for midfield center primarily covered the departures of Calhanoglu and Florian Flick. Michael Frey was brought on by Sebastian Polter in response to the cruciate ligament rupture.
In the last few days, the commitments of Tim Skarke for the right flank and Moritz Jenz for the central defense have at least brought some movement into the team.
