FC Schalke 04 got off to a rocky start to the season with just one win from three second division games. So it’s no wonder that those responsible are still looking for reinforcements. The focus should be on Tim Skarke. However, a transfer is difficult.
In the past second half of the season, Skarke was already on loan for the Royal Blues, but was unable to prevent relegation in nine appearances with one goal and one assist. Is it coming back now?
Schalke sports director André Hechelmann put the brakes on the “Ruhr 24”. At the moment they are looking for defensive players, especially for the two full-back positions.
Schalke sports director does not want to completely rule out Skarke transfer
However, this would not completely rule out a transfer from Skarke: “Just because the prioritization is currently like this does not mean that interest is completely gone. We all know how much we value Tim here and that Tim is a player who has shown here that he absolutely fits here. But it has to be feasible and realistic.”
“Perhaps there is a situation that is so good that I say: ‘Okay, we just have to think about how we can handle it’,” continued the 38-year-old.
Because the offensive players Kenan Karaman and Dominick Drexler are out “for the time being”, it would not be unlikely that those responsible for Schalke would do it again.
In the end, they even got help from central defender Timo Baumgartl. The 27-year-old, who himself only recently moved to Gelsenkirchen, tried to convince Skarke to switch to Schalke 04 on social media. Baumgartl wrote under a right-wing post: “Come to Schalke”. Both know each other from their days together at Union Berlin. From 2021 to 2023 Baumgartl was loaned from Eindhoven to the Köpenicker.
