FC Schalke 04 sees progress

Sports director Peter Knäbel still sees every chance for FC Schalke 04, bottom of the table, in the fight against relegation from the Bundesliga.

“Anyone who says in a panic, ‘It’s almost over’ can say: No, it’s not over soon,” said Knäbel after the 0-0 draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “We’re in. That’s not how relegated players play. It doesn’t feel like it for everyone either.”

Although Schalke remained without a win for the fifth time in a row and the gap to the non-relegation places grew to eight points after 19 games, Knäbel saw the Revierklub’s performance as progress: “We’ve come a little closer again. But we also have a little more We’re confident that we can absolutely keep up. Keeping up and staying in are just two different things. There’s only one thing that helps: time,” said Knäbel.
