After the departure of Rouven Schröder in October, FC Schalke 04 got through the transfer winter without a new sports director. However, it should not stay that way, as sports director Peter Knäbel has now confirmed.
Six newcomers have joined the FC Schalke team in recent weeks. They should help the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga to roll up the field from behind.
The Royal Blues had to complete a total of ten deals in the winter, after all four professionals left the club. Not an easy task without a full-time sports director.
Chief scout André Hechelmann and sports consultant René Grotus temporarily took over the duties of Rouven Schröder, who suddenly resigned from his position in the autumn, and helped sports director Peter Knäbel.
The latter was satisfied with the results. “It was a good decision to go with this team. I would like to express my thanks to André and René. Both did well in their roles,” explained Knäbel in the “WAZ”. The duo have “proven themselves”, both were “calm and stress-resistant”.
FC Schalke plans further with “triple constellation”
At the same time, Knäbel made no secret of the fact that he was looking for a strong new man for FC Schalke 04. In the current constellation, it should not continue.
“That would not do justice to the task. We are all aware that we need additional manpower,” emphasized the official, who again announced a “three-person constellation”.
He himself is striving for other areas of competence, revealed Knäbel: “The perspective is that I want to remain on the board. I will not apply to be a sports director.”
Benjamin Schmedes and Marcus Mann are considered candidates for the vacant job at the Ruhrpott-Klub. Whoever it is in the end – Knäbel wants “continuity” as in the “example SC Freiburg”.
