Serdar Dursun was traded as a new signing at FC Schalke 04 last year. Now interest in the former second division top scorer has allegedly flared up again.

Serdar Dursun has taken a rather unusual path in professional football. Only late in his career did the center forward make it into a first division and the Turkish national team.

The time at SV Darmstadt 98 gave the native of Hamburg the decisive boost. In the end, Fenerbahce secured the contract.

One of the competitors at the time was FC Schalke, who had just been relegated at the time. And it seems the squires haven’t lost sight of Dursun since.

Does FC Schalke 04 pay a million transfer fee?

The Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur reports that the Ruhrpott club is one of a number of people interested in Dursun. In addition to the Royal Blues, Union Berlin and FC Augsburg are also in the draw.

However, Dursun is still tied in Istanbul until 2024, so a transfer fee of millions would be unavoidable. In the previous season, the 30-year-old offensive man scored 15 times in 33 SüperLig appearances, in the new season he collected two assists in three games. For the most part, however, the massive snapper has to be content with the role of the noble joker.

FC Schalke 04 already has two edges in the penalty area

Meanwhile, it is questionable whether Dursun would even fit into the concept in Gelsenkirchen.

In promotion hero Simon Terodde and new signing Sebastien Polter, the S04 already have two tall penalty area strikers of advanced footballer age. However, the two veterans have not yet scored in 2022/2023.

In Germany, late starter Dursun was used in a total of 159 second division matches (67 goals).
