FC Schalke 04: Moritz Jenz’ historical record – no one started cleaner

“Mix fits”

In the first half of the Bundesliga season, Schalke 04 suffered twelve defeats and conceded 41 goals. Then Moritz Jenz came into the squad and since then the Royal Blues have not lost at all in six games, and they have only conceded one goal. In an interview, Jenz quickly refers to the whole team, which has improved. But this balance coined on the defender personally is almost unique. Only two other central defenders in the history of the league, both at FC Bayern, started in the new team with such a clean record as the native of Berlin after six starts, as our gallery shows.

“We’ve improved a lot as a team. Of course, it’s always good when new players come along – not only on defense, but also offensively,” explained Jenz in the “Kicker” interview on the current high form of Schalke, who have almost been written off, who can still hope to stay up in the league.

For him personally, Jenz meanwhile emphasized the good connection to Maya Yoshida. You complement each other well. “He’s extremely calm on the ball and good positional play, I’m the one who takes on the more aggressive part and runs to the back. We both relieve each other of a lot of work, the mix just works,” said Jenz about himself and his colleague, who shares the same record of one goal in six games, but only since Jenz has been there. A few days before his arrival, Yoshida was still on the field in the 6-1 draw against RB Leipzig – a result that the team had already suffered at home against FC Union this season. Second leg in Berlin with Jenz: 0-0. Schalke goes into the upcoming derby against BVB with two wins in a row.

Jenz is aiming for at least four years with Schalke: “Going in the right direction”

Meanwhile, Jenz never tires of emphasizing that he would like to stay at Schalke in the long term. “It would be awesome,” if he could stay, the loanee, who is still under contract with FC Lorient, recently told “Sport Bild”. In an interview with “Kicker” he now added: “Regardless of any contracts, I would like to stay for at least four years, maybe even more. I have everything I need at Schalke. A great project has started here. Schalke are going in the right direction in the long term, I’m convinced of that.”
