He was considered a great talent, had already played for FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga and in the DFB Cup, but Sidi Sané is now continuing his career outside of Gelsenkirchen. The younger brother of Bayern star Leroy Sané has joined Eintracht Braunschweig.
The 20-year-old signed a two-year contract in Lower Saxony. The Braunschweiger announced on Thursday. In the future, Sané will wear shirt number 24 on Hamburger Straße.
The contract of the offensive player at S04 was still dated until the summer of 2024, but the clubs involved kept to themselves whether and in what amount a fee was paid.
“With his high speed, Sidi is an ideal switch player who can act both on the flanks and through the center. He was well trained at Schalke and, despite his young age, will be an asset to our offensive. We are convinced that we will have a lot of fun with him and that he will also quickly collect playing times,” commented Sport-BTSV Managing Director Peter Vollmann on the deal at “eintracht.com”.
Sané adds: “It feels really good to be a lion. After such a long time at FC Schalke, this is exactly the right step for me. I’m really looking forward to the time, to the team, to the fans and I want to show what I can do. I want to help Eintracht and will do everything to ensure that we have a successful season as a team.”
FC Schalke 04 says it’s a shame to say goodbye
Schalke regretted the youngster’s departure, but didn’t want to put any obstacles in his way: “Sidi sees his move to Braunschweig as an opportunity to gain playing experience in a higher league. Of course, it’s always a shame when such a homegrown player leaves the club. Nevertheless, we wanted to comply with his change request,” said Schalke’s sports director at Knappenschmiede Matthias Schober.
By the way, it won’t be long before we meet again: Braunschweig hosts FC Schalke 04 on the 3rd match day of the 2nd Bundesliga (20 August, 1:30 p.m.).
The younger brothers of well-known internationals have played in Braunschweig several times. Tobias Schweinsteiger and Felix Kroos have also played for Eintracht in recent years
