As the new head coach of FC Schalke 04, Frank Kramer has cleared the first hurdle and reached the second round of the DFB Cup. After the 5-0 win against Bremer SV, the 50-year-old wants more.
After the radical upheaval in the summer, FC Schalke 04 celebrated a first, important sense of achievement. Goals from Rodrigo Zalazar (2′), Dominick Drexler (12′, 33′), Sebastian Kmiec (39′, own goal) and Marcin Kaminski (83′) ensured a successful debut for coach Frank Kramer.
Kramer was also happy about the great support from the royal blue supporters, many of whom had traveled to Oldenburg for the cup game. 10,000 fans didn’t want to miss the first Schalke appearance of the 2022/23 season, the majority of them were dressed in royal blue in the stadium. “It was a cup game away – and yet everything was in blue and white,” said the new coach in his competitive debut in an interview with “WAZ”.
The former Bielefeld trainer is now “extremely looking forward to being able to experience such support more often”. It was “really awesome” to have been on the sidelines for Schalke 04 in a competitive game for the first time. “It was more tingling than in the preparation games.”
Latza and Terodde fit in time for Schalke’s Bundesliga return?
Kramer also knows: “You can win more in a competitive game than just a good impression.” FC Schalke 04 spent six weeks preparing for the long season in which staying up in the league is at the top of the agenda. FC Schalke 04 will travel to 1. FC Köln for the Bundesliga opener (Sunday, 5:30 p.m.).
Then the recently absent leading players Danny Latza and Simon Terodde could be back in the game. “It looks reasonable for both players,” revealed Frank Kramer after the cup game. Captain Latza will return to full training “in the course of the week” after a hamstring injury, and Terodde’s muscular complaints have also eased.
