The squad planning at Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04 continues unabated. After several newcomers were announced in the last few days, the Royal Blues should now be looking for a new defensive man.
Like the portal”football transfers” reported, FC Schalke has targeted Fabien Centonze from FC Metz. The 26-year-old is still under contract with the Ligue 1 relegated team until 2024. Due to the bitter transition to the second French division, the club is this summer however, forced to sell several top performers for economic reasons.
This is probably also the case with the right-back, who was one of the top performers at FC Metz, at least in the first half of the season. Centonze played 17 of 19 games in the first half, but then suffered a serious muscle injury that forced him to sit back for several months. In the second half of the season, the full-back only played two more games.
According to the media report, Schalke sports director Rouven Schröder has now asked Fabien Centonze’s advisors about the player’s level of performance and future plans.
Will FC Schalke pay three million euros for Centonze?
In addition to the Gelsenkircheners, there are also said to have been initial inquiries from the Ligue 1 clubs OGC Nice and Stade Rennes.
As is well known, FC Schalke 04 is still looking for new alternatives for the right-back position. Loan player Andreas Vindheim left the club after just one half-series and only seven appearances.
As it goes on, FC Metz is ready to let Centonze go from a transfer fee of three million euros. Whether the clammy Royal Blues would be willing to spend this amount on another newcomer is still in doubt.
The most expensive transfer of the current change period was left-back Thomas Ouwejan, who was signed by AZ Alkmaar for two million euros.
