FC Schalke 04 gives an update on the coach question after bankruptcy at Hertha BSC

Matthias Kreutzer from Bundesliga bottom FC Schalke 04 will in all probability also lead training on Monday morning after the bitter 1: 2 (0: 0) at Hertha BSC. After that, however, the interim coach should be over, because Thomas Reis is apparently in the starting holes.

“I’m assuming Matthias Kreutzer very much,” said sports director Rouven Schröder after the sixth competitive defeat in a row when he was asked who would be on the training ground on Monday. However, the new head coach of the Royal Blues should be presented in the near future.

According to information from the “WAZ“There was an agreement with a candidate in Berlin over the weekend. However, the newspaper does not name a name. Only this much: the new man could start his work at the beginning of the week, possibly on Monday.

According to “Bild” and “Sport1” the new head coach is Thomas Reis. According to media reports, the 49-year-old, who was released at VfL Bochum a good month ago, had already reached an agreement with the Royal Blues in the summer, but was not given a release from VfL at the time.

So now his commitment should be finalized on Monday. Reis will probably bring his assistant coach Markus Gellhaus with him. In Gelsenkirchen he should sign a contract until 2024. However, it is still unclear whether Bochum will let Reis go free of charge.

“It’s about Schalke”

In any case, Schalke has “an important week ahead of us,” as Schröder said after the loss to Hertha, adding: “Now it’s the club’s turn to make the right decision. Then we all have to stand behind it.”

It’s “about Schalke,” warned Schröder, who saw an improved Schalke team in Berlin. “We saw that the boys believe in it and work to score.”

Schröder praises Schalke’s interim coach Kreutzer

Assistant coach Kreutzer “did a great job over the past few days. We performed very differently. It was a much better performance, we are absolutely competitive.”

At the moment, however, “if we make a mistake, the ball is usually in there,” Schröder complained.

Goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, on loan from Hertha to Schalke, slipped the ball through Lucas Tousart (49th) when it was 0-1. Florent Mollet (85′) equalized just before the end before Wilfried Kanga (88′) shot the Berliners to victory.
