Will Mirko Slomka re-sign at FC Schalke 04? The former coach is currently being considered as a possible new sports director for the second division soccer team. When asked about the rumors, Slomka did not rule out an engagement.
From the beginning of 2006 to April 2008, Mirko Slomka was on the sidelines as coach at FC Schalke 04. 16 years later, the now 56-year-old could return to Gelsenkirchen, at least that is probably a thought experiment by those responsible for the second division soccer team.
As “Sky” has learned, Slomka is part of a future scenario in which he is a candidate as the Revierklub’s future sports director.
In addition, Slomka was also considered a sports director, as it is said. But the new CEO Matthias Tillmann is also expected to take over this position from January. As sports director, Slomka would then act behind Tillmann if necessary and would therefore probably be more involved in day-to-day business.
“Sky” itself classifies the rumors about Slomka in the area of ”simulation games”, but the former coach, who recently ruled out in “kicker”, from continuing to work as a football teacher, has already started to speculate about the possibility faced with a new task at official or management level.
And Slomka at least did not rule out the possibility that he could possibly become sports director from next summer.
Slomka: FC Schalke 04 is a club close to my heart
“I have always remained closely connected to Schalke,” he told the TV station and added: “But there really was no official discussion about a collaboration.” However, Slomka let it be known that he could imagine the task. “Schalke is a matter of the heart,” he emphasized.
André Hechelmann currently holds the position of sports director at the Royal Blues. The previous chief scout was only promoted to this position in June. What would happen next for him in the event of a possible restructuring at the club remained unclear.
