FC Schalke 04 a “childhood dream” for newcomer Tom Krauss

Newcomer Tom Krauss is enthusiastic about FC Schalke 04, but would have liked to have made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga with his training club RB Leipzig.

Only recently Tom Krauss qualified for the European Championship with the German U21 national team. Now the 20-year-old midfielder is about to take the next big step in his young career.

After the loan from RB Leipzig to 1. FC Nürnberg, Krauss will play on loan at FC Schalke 04 in the coming season.

“My childhood dream was always Schalke,” Krauss explained to his transfer “Picture”. “If you come from a football family, tradition is still worth something. We looked for a club that was similar to Nuremberg. They had a brutally awesome squad, they totally got along. But in the end, RB had to say it : We’ll do that.”

The native of Leipzig made no secret of the fact that he would have liked to make the breakthrough at RB. “When I started in the U12s, that was a goal. Of course it’s difficult to gain a foothold in such strong competition, I know that too. I think it’s always nice when a club has such identification players . But of course it depends on the quality”, says Krauss.

He is now all the happier about being able to play regularly in the Bundesliga in the future. “It’s crazy to realize that. And the result of hard work. Doing the job you always wanted to have. You gave up a lot for that,” said the youngster.

It is important for Krauss to remain modest on his career path and to deal sensibly with the fame and financial opportunities as a professional footballer.

“My dad takes care of my account. But anyway, I’m not the kind of person who buys 1,000 euros every month. It’s important to me not to overdo it. I stay down to earth and don’t tick completely,” said the newcomer -Schalke. “My buddies always say: The most important thing is that you keep your feet on the ground. Otherwise karma will eventually strike back.”
