Diogo Jota died in a car accident in early July. FC Liverpool took part in the tragic death in several ways.

FC Liverpool financially supports the family of the late professional player Diogo Jota. As coach Arne Slot now confirmed, the club owners paid the entire outstanding salary of Jota to his family. “Owners are mainly criticized, just like managers, but the way they dealt with this situation by paying out all of the money from the contract for his wife and children,” said Slot TNT Sports. “Perhaps people think that is normal, but that’s not in football.”

In Liverpool, JOTA earned a rumored monthly salary of 583,000 euros. This corresponds to an annual salary of almost seven million euros and over the range of two years – as long as his contract would have been with the English champions – a total of 14 million euros.

At the beginning of July, Jota died in a car accident in Spain together with his brother André Silva. They had lost control of their car. The car had risen in flames after the impact. Any help came too late for both brothers. Only eleven days earlier, Jota had married his childhood sweetheart Rod Cardoso. The couple has three children together.

With Rúben Neves, the family has another supporter. The Portuguese played with Jota for years in the national team and promised in a touching homage: “I will make sure that you are always present. And I will make sure that your loved ones will never lack anything while you are far away – in my mind about us.”
