FOOTBALL – FC Groningen has reported to FC Emmen to take over striker Rui Mendes. The 23-year-old Portuguese is open to a transition himself, reports Newspaper of the North.
FC Groningen has been looking for offensive reinforcements for a long time.
So far, the green-whites have only strengthened themselves in the front line with target man Kevin Van Veen. Rui Mendes must become the second offensive newcomer, although there is no agreement yet between FC Groningen and FC Emmen.
“We are looking for reinforcement on the outside,” says director Wouter Gudde of FC Groningen. “Someone who has something that we currently don’t have enough in the selection. Speed and depth without the ball and you also link scoring ability to that. He is a suitable candidate for that.”
Mendes still has a two-year contract with FC Emmen and the club also has an option to extend the contract for another year.
