FC Groningen sells wanted Patrick Joosten to Apollin Limasol

FC Groningen sells Patrick Joosten for an undisclosed amount to Apollon Limasol from Cyprus. The 26-year-old attacker’s contract would expire at the end of this season.

Patrick Joosten came over from FC Utrecht in the 2020/2021 season and signed a contract for three seasons in the Euroborg. The attacker made his debut for FC Groningen on September 13, 2020 in the home game with PSV. In his first season for the club, Joosten made 27 appearances, scoring three goals.

The attacker played a total of 40 matches in the main squad of FC Groningen and was leased to Cambuur in the second half of last season due to a lack of playing time under Danny Buijs. Joosten last played for FC Groningen this season as a substitute in the away match against Ajax.

Interest from various clubs

“Patrick’s perspective at FC Groningen was limited for this season”, technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus responds to Joosten’s departure. “We looked for the best solution for his situation. There was interest from various clubs and in the end we managed to close a deal with Apollon Limasol.”
