FC Emmen has won the first match of the preparation for the new season. The team of new coach Fred Grim won 1-5 on a visit to the amateurs of SC Erica.
For the pure football fan, these are perhaps the most beautiful games. In preparation for a visit to the region, along amateur clubs where the atmosphere is relaxed and the beer cheaper than the soda. That was also the case at De Veenschappen sports park in Erica, where FC Emmen competed against the amateurs of the local SC on Saturday evening, playing in the second division next season.
Unpolished
For Fred Grim’s team, it was the first real test in preparation for the new season, which started just over a week ago. Players like Maikel Kieftenbeld, Rui Mendes, Jeff Hardeveld and Lorenzo Burnet, all recovering from injuries, did not play because of the risk of a relapse. Amateur clubs are simply a bit more unpolished, it sounded, although that was not too bad in the end.
FC Emmen started with a number of well-known names in the base, including Eric Oelschlägel, Mike te Wierik, Lucas Bernadou, Jari Vlak, Julius Dirksen, Dennis Vos and Ben Scholte. The team was completed by some newcomers. For example, acquisitions Mike van Beijnen and Chardi Landu were given the opportunity to show themselves from the kick-off, as well as youth players Milan Bikhan and Floris Quaedvlieg.
Resistance
SC Erica offered good resistance in the first half and tried to get out via the counterattack. Although the difference in quality was visible, FC Emmen scored ‘only’ twice before the break. The home club even managed to score on its own field to the amusement of the few hundred spectators, but did so in the final phase when it was already 0-4. FC Emmen made it 1-5 in injury time.
Fred Grim sent a youthful team into the field in the second half, consisting of names such as Elijah Mansaray, Dave Funke, Aaron Misehouy, George Younan, Kyron van der Kaap, Joey Roufs and Jasper Huijzer. Some of whom played a duel in the shirt of a professional football club for the first time. Michaël Heylen and Kyan van Dorp were the ‘experienced’ forces among all the youngsters.
