FC Emmen is one victory away from returning to the Eredivisie

FOOTBALL – With a simple 3-0 victory over Jong AZ and the defeat of Exelsior against Telstar, FC Emmen is only one victory away from the holy goal in this season: promotion to the Eredivisie.

That promotion could be a fact next Friday. If FC Emmen wins at FC Dordrecht, then it doesn’t even have to look at the competitors anymore and the next day, on Saturday, there is a party on the Raadhuisplein.

FC Emmen started the game against the number 12 of the Kitchen Champion Division excellent, with a goal. A free ball by Lorenzo Burnet was headed in by Miguel Araujo. For the Peruvian, who returned to the base after two matches, it was his fifth goal of the season.

Emmen was close to a second goal shortly after the 1-0 in a sold-out Oude Meerdijk, but Reda Kharchouch saw his effort turned by Sem Westerveld. After that, things got a bit less on the Drentse side and Jong AZ came more and more into the game, although there was no real danger from the attacks of the guests. Young AZ did not get further than an attempt in front of Ricuenio Kewal.

The second half was initially difficult for FC Emmen, but after Ole Romeny scored the 2-0, the game was over and there was really only one thing left to do: Rui Mendes’ seventh goal in succession. That one came too. After a wonderful deep pass from substitute Lucas Bernadou, the Portuguese number 7 of FC Emmen shot in fine.

It was not only his seventh in a row for Mendes, but also his thirteenth in total. It was the perfect final chord to a festive evening.
