FC Emmen does what it has to do against Telstar

FOOTBALL – The shock was there for a while when Glynor Plet headed the 1-1 behind Michael Brouwer just before half-time. Out of nowhere, Telstar equalized after Rui Mendes gave FC Emmen the lead after a beautiful pass from Keziah Veendorp.

But Dick Lukkien’s men remained calm, scored quickly after the break via Jari Vlak to make it 2-1 and did not run into problems after that.

That it stayed 2-1 was a small miracle, because chances for a much higher score were certainly there. Mendes, Jeroen Veldmate and substitute Jeff Hardeveld were close to 3-1, but did not score and so it remained with that narrow margin of one hit until the final whistle from referee Dröge.

Five out of five!

FC Emmen started with the returned Ole Romeny in the starting line-up and opened with a whirlwind. Yet it took a long time before the Drenthe club, which despite the supremacy did not play really well, took the lead. It was over after half an hour. A wonderful pass with the outside of Veendorp’s foot preceded the goal. Mendes was the final station and scored his fifth goal in his last five games.

On the stroke of half-time, Lukkien and his men got the cover on the nose, but that damper was quickly repaired in the second half. Jari Vlak hit hard after Mendes’ preparatory work: 2-1.

Competitors on six and eight points

The victory means FC Emmen has 70 points from 32 matches. The gap to number two, FC Volendam, is six points. The Volendammers still have a match due.

The margin to Excelsior, the number three, is again eight points. FC Eindhoven, which occupies the fourth place, has been seen. That difference is no less than twelve points with six games to go.
