FC Emmen will play in the Eredivisie again next year. In a swirling Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadium in Dordrecht, the leader was too strong for FC Dordrecht. Rui Mendes was again the big man for the Drenthe by scoring the only goal: 0-1.
FC Emmen pushed hard in the first half. Romeny and Kharchouch, among others, had opportunities and chances on the opening goal. But who else but Rui Mendes gave FC Emmen the lead just before half-time. He was able to get a beautiful pass from El Azzouzi under control and outwitted goalkeeper Bossin with a lob. This makes the Portuguese accurate eight times in eight games.
In the second half FC Emmen continued where it left off. FC Dordrecht came out very sporadically, but otherwise the ball was mainly at Emmen’s foot. In the first fifteen minutes FC Emmen did not really succeed in converting that possession into opportunities, but the main thing was waiting for a second goal from Drenthe.
That goal seemed a bit further away when Veendorp had to leave the field. The defender received his second yellow card and was able to push in. FC Dordrecht smelled blood with that. The South Hollanders pushed a little more and had a few opportunities for the 1-1, but that goal did not come. FC Emmen still had to fight a bit and took the victory with ten men.
