FC Eindhoven failed to reach the final of the play-offs. At home, ADO lost for the second time in one week. Due to the 2-1 defeat, the dream season of the Eindhoven residents has come to an end. It will not be awarded with a promotion, but it was a year to remember.
The atmosphere in the Jan Louwers Stadium changed in no time. There was an attractive turnout and FC Eindhoven was the better team in the opening phase. But in the space of ten minutes, the last bit of hope for promotion vanished.
Twice the defense was weak and ADO was able to take full advantage. At the 0-1, the defense of FC Eindhoven intervened three times, but the ball also ended up three times at a Hague. The third time the ball came to Thomas Verheydt and that is exactly the player you should not give the ball for the goal. The striker shot flawlessly into the long corner past goalkeeper Nigel Bertrams.
That goalkeeper didn’t look good at the 0-2. The ball got stuck between Collin Seedorf and the FC Eindhoven goalie. The defender wanted to head the ball back to his goalkeeper but headed into the goal through the legs. An ADO player pushed Seedorf in the back, but it was no reason for the video referee to disallow the goal.
Disappointment and pride
FC Eindhoven knew that it now had to score three more times to force an extension. An almost impossible mission. The home team played poorly and could hardly become dangerous. When after ten minutes in the second half the Eindhoven team did not play out a surplus situation well, everyone in the stadium knew that it was not possible today.
Nevertheless, the Eindhoven team scored one more time. But Mawouna Amevor’s connecting goal two minutes before time came too late.
The disappointment will be great at the Eindhoven club, but in a few days pride will dominate. Because FC Eindhoven has had a wonderful season. A third place in the competition and being able to dream out loud about the Eredivisie. Whoever said that beforehand was considered crazy.
