After the announced Rüdiger departure
After Thomas Tuchel initially only confirmed that he would remain at Chelsea until the end of the season, the German coach has now provided clarity for the coming season.
Asked about the recently announced farewell to defense chief Antonio Rüdiger (29), Tuchel said on Wednesday (quoted via “PA”): “There are still things that we haven’t achieved this season, so there are still things to be achieved, big things. He (Rüdiger; editor’s note) is still a big part of this club and we still demand 100 percent from him. And that’s what we’re focusing on, and from next season’s pre-season, life will go on whether we like it or not, whether we’re happy about it or not.” Even then, his coaching staff will do their best, “and me will be there with all my heart and knowledge for sure.”

How the blues will continue in the summer has not yet been finally clarified. Roman Abramovich, against whom sanctions were imposed in the course of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which almost render Chelsea unable to act, for example in terms of transfer policy, wants to sell the club. However, it is still unclear who will take control of the long-term owner at Stamford Bridge. As a result, there was also speculation about Tuchel’s future.

Tuchel wants to fall in love again with the Chelsea squad ‘that I then have’
The 2021 Champions League winner said when asked if he would be able to field a competitive team: “Yes. That’s my job, it’s my job in the end. Regardless of how the situation is resolved and when it is resolved, and how things are settled in the end, and how active we can be in the transfer market.” Chelsea will “dig in and try to get everything out of the squad that we do to have.”
In addition to Rüdiger, who is likely to be drawn to Real Madrid, Andreas Christensen (26; FC Barcelona) will most likely be another central defender after the end of his contract. According to the current status, newcomers can only come from returning loan players, including defensive talent Ethan Ampadu (21; Venezia), European champion Emerson (27; Lyon), sixth Tiemoué Bakayoko (27; Milan), eighth Billy Gilmour (20; Norwich) and Ex-BVB striker Michy Batshuayi (27; Beisktas). Regarding squad planning, Tuchel continued: “Hopefully, and I know myself, I’ll fall in love with the squad I have then and try to push it to the limit.”
