Schreuder refuses to return
Coach Scott Parker has to step down from Club Brugge just under two months after taking office. The 42-year-old Englishman, who took over from Carl Hoefkens at the turn of the year, was unable to get the troubled Belgian champions back on the road to success. On an interim basis, the previous assistant coach Rik De Mil will hold the post next weekend.
In the Champions League, Bruges were clearly eliminated in the round of 16 against Benfica Lisbon on Tuesday evening. After losing 2-0 in the first leg, the club went under in Portugal 5-1. Things didn’t go any better under Parker in the league either: they only won two of ten games and are 21 points behind leaders KRC Genk.
As a successor candidate was the Belgian newspaper “Het Laatste Nieuws” according to Alfred Schreuder. The former Hoffenheim coach was in charge of Bruges until the summer and was sacked at Ajax Amsterdam at the end of January. However, the 50-year-old canceled because he was said to want to take until the summer to make a decision about his future.
Scott Parker is not long home coach at Club Brugge.
