FC Bayern’s Hoffmann experienced “brutal side of football” at Sunderland

Bayern loan keeper raises allegations

Goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, loaned by FC Bayern Munich to AFC Sunderland, has made allegations against the English club after suffering a corona infection. “When I came back after seven days of quarantine, it went right back into the goal – although the quick test was still slightly positive. I had to play with Corona,” said the 23-year-old in an interview with “Picture”. “At the turn of the year I got infected and that changed everything.”

He played three games, but felt worse from game to game. “I had dizziness and a stabbing heart, as well as shortness of breath. The adrenaline kept me going in the first game because I was happy to be back in goal. From the second game, the symptoms became more severe, hardly anything worked. I told the club management that I cannot help the team at the moment and that I need to be examined more closely. But that was misreceived.”

Hoffmann reported: “After the infection, there were neither examinations of the heart nor the lungs. They didn’t even do quick tests before the games anymore. I wasn’t doing well physically, but the club wanted me to be tougher.” He was afraid of getting myocarditis like Bayern professional Alphonso Davies or Rune Jarstein from Hertha BSC. According to the information, Hoffmann finally flew to Munich for investigations in February and then did not play any more games for the third division team, where he was previously a regular goalkeeper. Since February 8th, after 24 appearances, he has been left out.

Hoffmann would like to move from FC Bayern to the second division – to Eintracht Braunschweig?

“That’s the brutal side of football, which you as a fan actually don’t want to read either. There were no discussions with those responsible,” revealed Hoffmann. His loan contract in Sunderland expires, his contract with FC Bayern ends in the summer of 2023. Hoffmann would like to switch to a second division club in Germany and is in talks with Eintracht Braunschweig, among others, it was recently reported. “In this league I want to establish myself as a regular goalkeeper next season. My big goal is to get promoted to the Bundesliga,” he said.
