Ever since it became known that Niklas Süle was joining BVB on a free transfer after the season, it was clear: FC Bayern must sign a new central defender in the summer. However, the supposedly preferred candidate from Munich should now finally be off the market.
Andreas Christensen from FC Chelsea knows the German Bundesliga from his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, at the age of 25 he can already look back on numerous competitive games at the highest level and is available on a free transfer after the season: So it’s no wonder that FC Bayern are looking to the Danes the radar should have.
“Sky” confirms that the Munich team “would have liked to sign” the international, but Christensen is as good as off the market.
The TV broadcaster wants to know that the right footer is “completely in agreement” with FC Barcelona. Christensen is said to be close to signing a five-year deal with the Catalans, with the deal set to be officially announced ‘in the coming days’. “All that’s really missing is the signature,” emphasized “Sky” reporter Marc Behrenbeck.
The fact that FC Bayern should go empty-handed is probably due to the offer from the German record champions. The Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who also reports that Christensen’s move to FC Barcelona is perfect, at least wants to know that Barca’s offer is simply “much better” than the offer from the Bavarian capital.
FC Bayern allegedly has little financial leeway
“Sport1” suspected on Monday that the limited financial leeway made it difficult for FC Bayern to find a new man for the center of defence.
It is said that the Munich team will have to get creative with the new cast. Too many professionals are already earning top salaries at FC Bayern. Most recently, winger Kingsley Coman also rose to the top earners thanks to his extension.
The consequence for squad planning: Recently traded Süle successors such as Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea or Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt would not be an option simply because of their salary expectations.
