The 3rd league game between 1. FC Saarbrücken and Dynamo Dresden had to be abandoned after 45 minutes on Sunday. Days of heavy rain had made the lawn in Ludwigsgspark unplayable. A circumstance that FC Bayern should now keep a close eye on. On Wednesday the Munich team will be visiting the Saarland team in the second round of the DFB Cup.
After 45 minutes, referee Arne Aarnink had to admit that his original assessment that a regular game was possible given the condition of the pitch was not correct. During the half-time break, Aarnink corrected his decision and stopped the action.
“It doesn’t have much to do with football, it’s not even a football game anymore. As soon as you have to control the ball, you can actually forget about it,” the “Bild” quotes Saarbrücken’s coach Rüdiger Ziehl, who supported the cancellation.
It is not yet clear when the duel between 1. FC Saarbrücken and the league leaders from Dresden will be rescheduled.
What is certain, however, is that FC Bayern is the next opponent that the Saarbrücken team will face. On Wednesday (8:45 p.m.) the German record champions will be visiting the founding member of the Bundesliga in the second round of the DFB Cup. However, it is still far from certain that the game will take place. A failure is “quite possible,” the newspaper says.
Can FC Bayern save grains for BVB?
The “Bild” speculates that the game is at least on the brink. Although the weather forecast for match day is encouraging, it is not possible to say with certainty whether the pitch will recover sufficiently by Wednesday. In addition, all possible alternative locations are occupied, as cup games are also taking place in nearby Homburg and Kaiserslautern.
A loss could certainly be attractive for FC Bayern, especially since the difficult league away game at Borussia Dortmund awaits FCB on November 4th (6:30 p.m.). Saving on grains during the week shouldn’t be a disadvantage. On the other hand, Bayern’s schedule is not getting any emptier, so a catch-up date could definitely be inconvenient.
