Hope for Trio’s return
Serge Gnabry will be out for several weeks. The 28-year-old suffered a fracture of his left forearm on Tuesday evening during FC Bayern’s 4-0 (3-0) win in the first round of the DFB Cup against third division club Preußen Münster. Coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed this on the Sky channel. Gnabry will therefore also be out of the national team’s trip to the USA in October for the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s first international matches.
His latest status is that Gnabry should undergo surgery this Wednesday, said Tuchel. “Then it will take a few weeks,” said the Bayern coach: “It’s extremely bitter, especially for him personally, of course, but also for us. He is simply an important player.” Gnabry had already collided with Münster goalkeeper Johannes Schenk in the fourth minute of the game. He continued playing briefly but was then substituted.
FC Bayern: Trio around Müller about to return – De Ligt still needs time
For the upcoming top game against RB Leipzig on Saturday (6:30 p.m.), Tuchel could rely on three other professionals who were still missing in Münster. “I hope that Thomas Müller, Min-jae Kim and Dayot Upamecano will have enough until Saturday,” he said. “But it will be a close race that we have to complete to get her fit. But it’s realistic, it’s doable.”
The return of the two central defenders Kim and Upamecano would be particularly important for Bayern. In Münster, midfielder Leon Goretzka and full-back Noussair Mazraoui had to help out in the center of defense. For central defender Matthijs de Ligt, playing at the weekend comes too early. The Dutchman will not be available again until next week at the earliest, said Tuchel.
