FC Bayern remains on Bayer Leverkusen’s heels in the Bundesliga. The Munich team narrowly won against FC Augsburg in the end. A downer marred the success.
With a 3:2 (2:0) at FC Augsburg, FC Bayern picked up the next three points in the Bundesliga. The German record champions, who had already won the catch-up game against Union Berlin 1-0 during the week, deservedly won against the Fuggerstadt team, who, however, kept up well for long stretches of the game.
Aleksandar Pavlović gave Bayern the lead midway through the first half (23rd minute). Alphone Davies extended this a few seconds before the half-time whistle (45th +6). Augsburg found their way back into the game in the second half through captain Ermedin Demirović (52nd). A short time later, Harry Kane ended his short goal drought and restored the old gap (58th).
Manuel Neuer gave Felix Uduokhai a penalty shortly before the end, but then parried Sven Michel’s attempt (88th). But a few minutes later, Thomas Müller fouled Demirović. There was a penalty again. This time Demirović stepped up and sank the ball (90. +4). Thomas Tuchel’s team had to tremble for a moment, but they managed to get the result over time.
After the success, Bayern remain in second place in the table and only one point behind Bayer Leverkusen. However, the Werkself can still move ahead by four points in the evening game against Gladbach. It was also bitter for the Munich team: Kingsley Coman was injured in the first half and had to be substituted. Bayern’s military hospital threatens to become even larger.
That’s how the game went
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel had to complain about some failures. Last week, Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano and Joshua Kimmich joined the German record champions’ long list of injuries. So it happened that, for example, the trained left-back Raphaël Guerreiro had to play on the right side.
FCA put Bayern under pressure early on. After just six minutes, referee Christian Dingert pointed to the penalty spot. De Ligt played the ball with his hand, but outside the penalty area. The video evidence clarified it. There was a free kick instead of a penalty. This brought in nothing.
A few turns of the pointer later, the home team celebrated. Rexhbecaj had pushed the ball past Neuer into the box. But the video evidence was used again. The goalscorer was a few centimeters offside. The goal didn’t count (13th).
FC Bayern then took the lead. Pavlović got the ball from a corner and scored. The top talent’s first Bundesliga goal. Kingsley Coman was injured during the creation of the goal because Augsburg’s Tietz fell on him. He had to leave the place supported by carers. Tel came into play for him (26th).
Bayern shook themselves briefly and increased the score before the break. Goretzka served for Davies, who scored powerfully from 20 meters to make it 2-0. Augsburg came back in the second half. Mbabu was not tackled, was able to cross and found Demirović, who headed in.
Augsburg now wanted the equalizer. But Harry Kane initially nipped their hopes in the bud. The Englishman, who had not scored in the last two games, scored his 23rd goal of the season. The VAR also checked this goal; Kane had been offside, but the ball had not come from Musiala, but from an Augsburg player.
Things got hectic again in the final phase. FCA was awarded a penalty twice. First, Neuer saved a penalty from Michel, which the goalkeeper himself had caused. He was powerless to counter Demirović’s penalty a little later. But that didn’t change the outcome of the game.
