FC Bayern Munich has further improved its chances of participating in the playoffs in the Basketball Euroleague.
At the end of the year, coach Pablo Laso’s team won against the Spanish club Valencia BC with 85:84 (38:39) and was able to reduce the gap to the coveted ranks to a success.
At the end of the first half of the season, the Munich team are in twelfth place in the table with eight wins and nine defeats.
In the first two quarters, both teams fought on equal terms. No team was able to break away and there were constant changes in leadership. After 20 minutes the guests were narrowly leading by one point.
This continued after the break. After every good phase for the Spaniards, FC Bayern came back: Valencia led 52:45 after four minutes in the third quarter, and two minutes later the hosts equalized to make it 54:54.
Things remained exciting in the final half too. With 16 seconds left, Vladimir Lucic made two free throws to make it 84:81. Carsen Edwards also increased the score from the free throw line to 85:81. A successful long-range throw from the guests came too late.
The best shooters for Munich were Leandro Bolmaro and Devin Booker with 13 points each.
