For a long time, Erling Haaland was considered practically irreplaceable at Borussia Dortmund. The importance of the top scorer for BVB seemed huge, disproportionately large. The mood is now changing a bit. Ex-national player and TV expert Dietmar Hamann now even believes that a likely Haaland change next summer could bring more advantages than disadvantages for Dortmund.
“I think that not only the fans, but also the team and the club are annoyed by the circus,” said the 48-year-old in an interview with “picture” before the Bundesliga classic of Dortmund Borussia at FC Bayern.
Hamann was alluding to the changing theater around the 21-year-old. Haaland has been associated with a departure to Manchester City for months, and other top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or even FC Bayern have always been traded as possible next Haaland stations.
The long-time England legionnaire Hamann was increasingly negative about the ongoing speculation about the Norwegian, so he has now changed his attitude to the whole matter.
“At BVB, the players will score goals even without Haaland. That was always the case. I even believe that it will help Dortmunders in the short or medium term if Haaland is no longer there.”
The black and yellow better without their goal machine? Just looking at his outstanding hit rate suggests another assumption: Erling Haaland scored 82 goals in a total of 85 competitive games for BVB – the rate of a world-class striker.
BVB star Haaland lost all games against FC Bayern
According to Hamann, the hustle and bustle surrounding the superstar had simply become too big in recent months, which was neither conducive to the development of the player himself nor to Borussia Dortmund as a club.
“I think Haaland is better off somewhere else,” said Hamann. The 48-year-old already sees the Dortmund team well prepared for the coming season, when FC Bayern can finally be knocked off the Bundesliga throne in the eleventh attempt.
“Without Haaland there is also a huge chance. […] I believe that BVB will be better next season without Haaland with the players they have already brought in than with him,” Hamann added.
By the way: In the top games against FC Bayern, Haaland has by no means proved to be a lucky charm. In his six competitive games against Munich, the Norwegian scored a whopping five times, but lost all direct duels against Bayern.
